OCAN’s screening of Changá

As part of the ongoing Talkshow series in Den Helder, Groningen, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam, the Caribbean Dutch community in Amsterdam gathered this past Saturday for a special edition hosted by Stichting ProFor in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The event, co-hosted by Re/Presenting Europe, featured the first public screening of Changá by Prof. Dr Francio Guadeloupe, followed by a panel discussion and audience conversation reflecting on belonging, identity, resilience, and the lived experiences of Caribbean Dutch people in the European part of the Kingdom. Representatives from both the Windward and Leeward islands joined the dialogue, highlighting the importance of community, creativity, and mutual support.

Dr. Jody Metcalfe, one of the co-organizers, had this to say ‘As a continuation of the Het Talkshow series, co-created with Stichting Ocan, we hosted another successful event focused on Dutch Caribbean Belonging in the Netherlands. The screening of the documentary Changá, is inspired by the themes of the Talkshow Project, specifically the challenges and successes of living in the Netherlands and unpacking the complexities of where “home” is. The event, hosted at ProForin Bijlmer, saw panellists Durwin Lynch and Kjelld Kroon engaging with the film’s content, as well as their own experiences and reflections, and foregrounding an audience discussion.
